Kim Clijsters and Martina Hingis playfully raced against each other during a few of their opening round matches, but now the game is really on, with a quarterfinal meeting up next at the 2007 Australian Open.
Fourth seed Kim Clijsters has booked a spot in her fourth Australian Open quarterfinal with a solid 6-1, 7-5 win over Daniela Hantuchova.
Clijsters, who is one of the crowd favorites at Melbourne, needed just seventy-nine minutes to power her way through her fourth round matchup against the fifteenth seed. Her serve was a little off, but she still managed to keep her straight sets winning streak alive headed into the quarterfinals.
Hingis and Clijsters first met on the tennis courts seven years ago in 2000, back when Hingis reigned as the world number one. Since then they have met seven more times, with their last meeting coming at Roland Garros in the quarterfinals.
Clijsters won their last three matches, including one last season in the quarterfinals at Melbourne.
Now, just one year later, Hingis’ ranking has jumped up from No. 349 to No. 7, and will be gunning for a spot in her sixth Australian Open semifinal.
Martina has struggled of late against the power players on Tour, and taking on the hottest player at the Australian Open will be a tall order.
Kim has not lost a match since the WTA Championships in November, and after handily fending off all her opponents so far at Melbourne, she is my pick to win a spot in the semifinals.

Dunno how to do your cool little quote thingy but here we go…
“Kim has not lost a match since the WTA Championships in November, and after handily fending off all her opponents so far at Melbourne, she is my pick to win a spot in the semifinals.”
Agreed. Haha, that’s all I wanted to say.

Hingis really did not impress me with the first two sets against Na Li.
If she struggled that much under the power that Li sent her way, there’s not much of a chance for her against Clijsters, who is looking more invicible as the draw progresses.

Since Amelie’s out, I’ll root for Kimmie.
All the way!!
