World number four Kim Clijsters has pulled out of next week’s Open Gaz de France in Paris because of a strain in her hip.
Belgium’s No. 2 player reached the semifinals of the Australian Open last week before losing to Maria Sharapova, but the strain of playing four weeks in a row took a toil on her body.
She has announced that she will be skipping the Tier II tournament in order to stay at her best form before competing at home in Belgium at the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp.
“I have been to the hospital yesterday for a check up and the analysis was that I am currently suffering from a strain injury,” said Clijsters on her official website.
“I’ve been advised to rest and am therefore forced to cancel my Paris tournament. I would otherwise jeopardize my participation in Antwerp and I certainly want to avoid that.”
Life at home will not be too dull for Clijsters. She goes on to say that she’ll be taking advantage of the off-time to work on plans for her wedding dress.

This is turning out to be a sad farewell tour.
Do you think this injury can be attributed to her poor performance at the AO. Her earlier rounds were easy wins, but she played unuasually poor in the quarters and semis.

Good question William.
I’m of the opinion that this did not hamper her game at Melbourne because she looked like she was moving fine to me. She was having trouble keeping her shots clean and unforced errors down, but it seemed like her foot speed and movement were normal.
