Kim Clijsters is planning on saying farewell to professional tennis at the end of the 2007 season, but that does not mean that she’ll be playing a full schedule over the next few months.
Clijsters, who is engaged to be married this summer, has decided that given her propensity to injury, she’ll be playing a limited, pick-and-choose schedule for the rest of the season.
“I will have to build in longer resting periods after each tournament”, said Clijsters on her website.
“This means I will have to cancel Indian Wells as well, in order to have three weeks of rest before Miami. After that, again three weeks until Warschau [Warsaw].”
Kim will definitely be missed at the Pacific Life Open, a tournament that she has traditionally done well at with two titles in 2003 and 2005.
She has not guaranteed that she’ll be skipping the next Grand Slam, Roland Garros, but has hinted that it may become a reality.
“It might very well be I’ll drop the French Open, so I can be completely fit for Eastbourne and Wimbledon,” continued Clijsters.
Kim Clijsters has some unfinished business on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and another Grand Slam title would do well to help her chances of reaching the Tennis Hall of Fame after she retires.
For all her sliding around on court, she’s never done too well on clay, and with her hamstring and wrist already being vulnerable, she is not going to let the terre battue get in the way of a final Grand Slam championship at Wimbledon or the US Open.

It’s going to be so wierd not seeing Kim’s name in the draw at Indian Wells. I definitely agree that she should skip the French.
I don’t understand why she’s getting married over the summer. Is the wedding scheduled after Wimbledon? If so, she’ll miss a huge portion of the hardcore season. Is the US Open her last tournament?
