Quick Notes on the Draw
Venus Williams is scheduled to make her 2007 season debut on Monday night against Japan’s Akiko Morigami. She did not receive a wild-card into the tournament and is seeded at No. 7, a far step from the days when she ruled as one of the best tennis players in the world.
She has a good draw, but third seed Marion Bartoli is capable of knocking out Venus if she stays focused and plays aggressively in the quarterfinals.
France’s Tatiana Golovin was originally added to the draw as the second seed, but she has withdrawn from the tournament with an upper respiratory infection.
