The field at next week’s Pacific Life Open was not that great to begin with and now the tournament has lost one of their biggest non-American draw cards, Sania Mirza.
Mirza injured her right knee earlier this week at the Qatar Total Open and she will be out of competition for a couple of weeks at the earliest.
She will definitely be skipping Indian Wells and could possibly also miss the Tour’s mandatory event later this month at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.
According to the Hindu, Sania has been having tests run on her knee for the past few days, and although the tests are not 100% conclusive at this point, she may have injured her ACL tendon.
If it is just a simple minor or pull of the tendon, she should be back in action within a couple of weeks.
But if the doctors discover a tear, she may be out of competition from three to six months.

A real shame for her. Here’s hoping it’s only minor and doesn’t keep her out for months.
