Last year’s Australian Open and Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo has pulled out of this week’s Sony Ericsson Open because of an emergency appendectomy.

According to the French version of her website, Mauresmo was due to leave for Florida, but postponed her journey because of suffering for a couple of days with stomach pain.

She then underwent medical tests which revealed that her appendix was inflamed and had an emergency appendectomy done this morning.

Amelie is expected to make a full recovery, but will be off the tour for at least a month.

The Tier I event in Miami is a mandatory Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event and will be featuring the best tennis players in the world, including Justine Henin, Maria Sharapova, Kim Clijsters, Martina Hingis, and Venus and Serena Williams.
