Who’s Up
Justine Henin (1/2) - Justine has had a rough year already when it comes to her personal life, but her game could not get much better. She already has two titles, recaptured the No. 1 ranking and is headed into Miami with a 10-1 record.
Svetlana Kuznetsova (3*/4) - Two back-to-back finals helped push Svetlana to a debut in the top three. Maria had better look-out if Kuznetsova manages to regain her confidence in big matches.
Nicole Vaidisova (8*/10) - Nicole is working hard to entrench herself inside of the top ten and I think we will see her reach the top five by the end of the season.
Daniela Hantuchova (12/18) - Huge kudos to Daniela Hantuchova for ousting two top ten players en-route to her second Pacific Life Open.
Samantha Stosur (27/29) - Stosur is back to her career high and continues to consolidate her position as No. 1 in doubles with Lisa Raymond.
Sybille Bammer (30*/46) - Sybille Bammer’s excellent run to semifinals led her to a career high inside of the top thirty. Top twenty-five would make a great Mother’s Day gift for the Tour’s top Mommy.
Kaia Kanepi (56*/61) - Estonia’s only player inside of the top 100 reached the second round of Indian Wells before losing in three sets to Daniela Hantuchova.
Victoria Azarenka (66*/76) - The five-time junior Grand Slam champion and Roger Federer fan set a new career high of No. 66 today.
Tiantian Sun (77*/85) - Tiantian Sun helped China capture a gold medal in doubles at the 2004 Olympics and now she’s hard at work crafting her singles career.
Who’s Down
Maria Sharapova (2/1) - Maria lost the number one ranking, but she is still the top seed at Miami. It may sound nice, but she has both Williams sisters in her quarter.
Amelie Mauresmo (4/3) - Mauresmo skipped Indian Wells and now that she had to have her appendix removed, she’ll be off the Tour for at least a month.
Gisela Dulko (51/44) - Argentina has come a long way since the days of Gabriela Sabatini as the country does not have any players inside of the top fifty.
