Maria Sharapova’s Fed Cup debut will have to wait a few more months as the former world number one has announced that she will be missing the next five to six weeks of competition because of a shoulder injury.
Sharapova has been struggling with her serve since the Australian Open and she will be taking the next several weeks off to recover from not only the shoulder injury, but also her lingering hamstring strain.
She has withdrawn from next week’s Family Circle Cup, plus Maria will be skipping Russia’s Fed Cup tie against Spain in April.
“I am very disappointed to have to withdraw from the Family Circle Cup,” said Sharapova in a statement released by the WTA Tour on Monday. “It is really difficult for me to miss top events like the Family Circle Cup, but I need to make sure that I get myself healthy enough to play.”

The Family Circle Cup was originally scheduled to include most of the players inside of the top ten, but Justine Henin has also withdrawn because of her continued breathing problems and Amelie Mauresmo is still out due to her appendectomy.

what a surprise. i knew something would come up to stop her playing Fed cup. she’s too selfish to play in a team environment. but as she made herself available she can play in the Olympics. lucky her.

I hate her I am glad she can’t play. she is a whining baby and like you said she is all about herself not a team. She would have just doubled faulted her way out of the tournamnet anyways
