Jelena Jankovic and Dinara Safina Reach Family Circle Cup Final

Family Circle CupThe Family Circle Cup is winding to a close, but not before second seed Jelena Jankovic and Dinara Safina face off in the Tier I final tomorrow at Charleston.

Jankovic and Safina have both been in and out of the top 10 recently and one of them will be grabbing her first major breakthrough title tomorrow. I’ve not watched Safina play for several weeks, but I did manage to catch most of Jelena’s thriller against Venus earlier today. Even though she lost the first set and struggled with holding her serve in the second, she still fought for every point and most importantly, managed to control her occasionally shaky nerves.

The match will start at 1:00pm ET and will be followed by Shuai Peng and Tiantian Sun facing Yan Zi and Jie Zheng in the doubles final.

Go Jankovic! She’ll be No. 7 either way she wins or loses, but she’ll be so close in overtaking Hingis, Clijsters, and Kuzy for the Top 5. Hingis has a win in Rome and Kuzy has her Roland Garros finals.

    Safina is boring. Boo.

And what a women’s double match! I hope The team of Peng and Sun wins! The Chinese are definitely here!

I’m just hoping for a good match. Love both, want a breakthrough for both right now. I think I slightly favor Jelena since she only has two piddly Tier IVs. Hope it’s good.

The Williams sisters are big strong athletic womem and at one point in their career could not be beaten. They are relaxing a little now so some of some very talented younger players are on the move. Makes women’s tennis more interesting to see new faces on top..I do think the Williams sisters did much to elevate the level of women’s tennis worldwide. They were highly motivated to win or what?
