The Tennis ChannelThe news that millions of tennis fans in the United States have been waiting to hear for four years is finally here; DIRECTV will begin broadcasting The Tennis Channel this summer.

The deal has yet to be formally announced (I’ll post the press release once it is available), but the AP is reporting that TTC will probably begin airing on DIRECTV in late August.

Also, TTC will begin broadcasting by late November or December a second feed for tennis fans with high-definition televisions.

Overall, this is a big milestone for tennis in the United States, but speaking as someone who already has TTC, I hope that they now place their focus on adding higher quality content. They have excellent on-air personalities, including Leif Shiras, Chris Myers and Katrina Adams, but their regular content in between tournaments could use some improving.

Also, I’d love to see TTC produce a daily highlights or news show, instead of just weekly recaps.
