OFF: Mid-Season Slump or Retirement for Martina Hingis?

One of the biggest pieces of news this week was Martina Hingis’ decision to pull-out of Roland Garros and spend some time reevaluating where she stands on the Tour.

Today’s Open Forum Friday question has to do with Hingis and your thoughts on where her game stands at this point.

“Does Martina Hingis’ recent form indicate a minor mid-season slump or is the Swiss Miss headed back into retirement, but this time for good?”

Everyone, especially all of the lurkers out there, feel free to leave your opinion in the comments below!

There’s nothing to say it’s NO

There’s no reason she should retire, unless her injuries are that drastic. She came back to win titles and Slams; she’s won two Tier Is in her comeback, with two more finals in those events. She made the YEC, for crying out loud! I don’t like Hingis, but she still has the goods when she’s confident.

Why does anyone really care if Hingis, Cappriati, or Paris Hilton want to waste the best years of their lives being all eat up with themselves?

She made us dream again with her comeback, she climbed back to nr. 6 in the world…. only a spoiled little girl would do that and then retire because of a few games that went wrong!

Hingis is still one of the best ‘thinkers’ in the game. No one knows the court as she does or has her intuition. She can steal the thunder from all those slap power players who are negating an elite and sophisticated sport into a mere street fight. Let’s hope she keeps the faith and once again shows the sport what true grit and talent is.
