Who’s Up
Jelena Jankovic (3*/5) – Jankovic continues to race up the WTA Rankings and she is now sitting at a new career high of No. 3 in the world.
Ana Ivanovic (6*/7) – Ivanovic solidified her position in the top 10 after reaching her first Grand Slam final in Paris.
Nadia Petrova (10/12) – Petrova lost in the first round of Roland Garros, but still managed to reclaim her spot in the top 10, no small thanks to Dinara Safina and Nicole Vaidisova.
Elena Dementieva (11/14) – After successfully returning from a rib injury, Elena Dementieva is only five points away from overtaking Petrova for a spot in the top 10.
Sybille Bammer (22*/25) – Paris was good to Bammer this season – and her fourth round finish rewarded her with a new career high.
Lucie Safarova (26/29) – Safarova knocked France’s hopeful Amelie Mauresmo out of Roland Garros in the third round, making her 2-0 against the former world number one at Grand Slams this season.
Sania Mirza (42/50) – Mirza’s fans have needed good news for a long time and they got it this week when Sania reached her highest ranking since the summer of 2006.
Tamira Paszek (55*/72) – She is only sixteen years old, but she showed signs of promise at Roland Garros, especially against Justine Henin in the second round.
Ioana Raluca Olaru (79*/122) – The Romanian teenager vaulted into the top 100 after playing through the qualifying event to the third round at Roland Garros, before losing to eventual finalist Ana Ivanovic.
Who’s Down
Svetlana Kuznetsova (5/3) – Kuznetsova has covered a lot of ground this season by reaching four finals, but she was not able to reach the one that mattered the most when it came to her ranking points at Roland Garros.
Martina Hingis (9/6) – Even though she only reached the quarterfinals at the French Open in 2006, Hingis’ failure to defend her points may wind up costing her a spot in the top 10.
Alicia Molik (71/58) – Alicia Molik’s singles return may have hit a few bumps on the road, but she won the ladies doubles title at Roland Garros with Mara Santangelo.
Anastasia Myskina (76/51) – The 2004 Roland Garros champion returned to action in Paris two weeks ago, only to lose 1-and-0 in the first round against Meghann Shaughnessy.
