Jelena Jankovic advanced by a walk-over because of Meilen Tu’s left groin strain and Daniela Hantuchova was one game away from defeating Meghann Shaughnessy 3-6, 6-3, 5-3 when Shaughnessy withdrew with a sprained left ankle.

Defending champion – and this week’s blogger from the WTA Tour – Michaella Krajicek went down in three sets to Dinara Safina in the second round of the Ordina Open in Netherlands yesterday.
