Venus and Serena Williams to Debut Gold Tennis Racquets at Wimbledon

When Venus and Serena Williams step onto the courts at Wimbledon next week they may get upstaged by their own tennis racquets.

K Factor Limited Edition RacquetsThey’ve been known to go occasionally over-the-top when it comes to their choice of on-court fashion, but this being Wimbledon, we know that they’ll be suitably attired in the customary “Wimbledon Whites”.

The AELTC may govern the attire of players, but to my knowledge, there are no rules in the books about how far a tennis racquet can be bedazzled.

This year’s Wimbledon will see Venus and Serena debuting two new racquets, Wilson (K) Factor Gold Limited-Edition sticks.

“I can’t think of a better place to play with a racket made with real gold than Wimbledon,” said Serena, who won her second singles title there in 2003.

“I love the look of this racket and the fact that (K) Factor technology has brought the added control I was seeking in my game. It has made a real difference and could put me in contention for the title again.”

Serena will play with a pure black racquet and Venus with a pure white version - both featuring real 22-carat gold leaf laid into the frame.

Venus is just as excited as her younger sister to try out her new racquet specially designed by Wilson.

“We both started out our tennis careers with Wilson rackets and our relationship with the brand is very special,” said Venus, who defeated Lindsay Davenport in an epic final match for the title in 2005. “But having special edition gold (K) Factor rackets makes us feel extra unique when we go out on court and shows just how much Wilson values our playing with their rackets.”

Only 650 of each model of the (K) Factor gold limited-edition racquets will be available worldwide for sale to the public this summer at a recommended retail price of $500.

Venus and Serena will each autograph and donate 10 (K) Factor gold limited-edition racquets for auction by The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder to support research on breast cancer.

In addition, a percentage of every racket sold will go to benefit BCRF.

Good point. But personally, I liked the thought of gold tennis shoes more than playing with a gold racquet.

Sorry, but I’ve not come across the retail locations for the racquets. There will only be 650 of them for sale worldwide sometime during the summer.

The black one looks a lot like the K-factor surge so that could possible be it but i doubt it because the surge is only about 200 dollars
