Wimbledon Preview: Day Seven

(1) Justine Henin vs. (15) Patty Schnyder
Schnyder and Henin have met eight times in the past, but the only time Schnyder walked away with the win was at Charleston last season. Schnyder’s left-handed game gives fits to most of the other women on Tour, but Justine Henin remains the exception.

When Justine is in her zone, no player right or left-handed is able to get in her way. She is playing some of her best ever grass court tennis this season and she’ll be the overwhelming favorite to reach the quarterfinals.
My Call: Justine Henin remains on track for a thrilling quarterfinal meeting with Serena Williams.

(3) Jelena Jankovic vs. (18) Marion Bartoli
Jelena had a hard time in the first two sets of her third round match against Lucie Safarova, but found enough energy to come back in the deciding set. Bartoli can be a tough customer on hard courts, however she is working hard to bring her grass court game up to par. Semifinal finishes at Eastbourne and Birmingham gave Marion a good start to Wimbledon, but after two days of rest, expect Jankovic to come out on court with recharged batteries.
My Call: Jankovic gets another three-set workout, but still comes out the winner.

(23) Venus Williams vs. Akiko Morigami
Rain saved the day for Venus on Saturday after she blew her lead against Morigami in the second set. A day to cool her heels and refocus her game was just what the former world number one needed to give her a solid boost before she faces Maria Sharapova in the fourth round.
My Call: Venus finishes dispatching Morigami in two sets.

(31) Michaella Krajicek vs. Laura Granville
Either way, this will be a breakthrough win for a talented newcomer or a refreshed veteran. Experience may swing the match in the way of Granville, but don’t count out the Krajicek blood on grass.
My Call: A Krajicek reaches the quarterfinal round of Wimbledon for the first time since Richard won the title in 1996.

From Saturday’s preview:
(12) Elena Dementieva vs. Tamira Paszek
Elena Dementieva had a look at Tamira Paszek’s game in the first round of ladies doubles, but considering the fact that Paszek and Sybille Bammer only won one game during the match, it was more of a quick glance. I’m sure Paszek is more than aware of Dementieva’s biggest weakness, so it won’t be hard to guess what Paszek’s game plan will be. If she can protect her own serve, something she struggled with in the first two rounds, and be aggressive in her service returns, she’ll pull an upset and keep her best Grand Slam record alive.
My Call: Tamira Paszek knocks out Elena Dementieva in two sets.
