Nicole Vaidisova Defeats Defending Champion Amelie Mauresmo at Wimbledon

Nicole Vaidisova’s three set record over Amelie Mauresmo remained intact today as the teenager ousted the defending champion in three sets 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-1 at Wimbledon.
Even though Mauresmo had defeated Vaidisova twice in their previous four meetings, every time their matches reach three sets Vaidisova has emerged as the winner.
Headed into the match, Mauresmo had been exhibiting the form that led her to title last season, but the fourth round today was a completely different story. The fourth seed’s serve was uncharacteristically streaky with fourteen double faults and over half of her fifty net approaches were unsuccessful.
Vaidisova’s win propels her into her first Wimbledon quarterfinal, where she awaits the winner of the Ana Ivanovic/Nadia Petrova match. Ivanovic was serving for the match at 6-1, 2-6 5-4 when rain suspended play.

What a bummer! Mauresmo had been playing beautifully but that elusive “intensity” that players need to go the distance was lacking in her match against Vaidisova. Hope Mauresmo doesn’t go into a depressed swoon over this defeat. There’s lots of hardcourt ahead.

Petrova and Jankovic just went out too, I think the rain is really messing up the top player heads.
Bartoli and Krajicek will fight for their first GS semifinal, amazing outcome this year!

I still can’t believe Amelie lost! She was my pick to reach the final from the bottom half of the draw.
