Venus Williams Outshines Marion Bartoli For Her Fourth Wimbledon Title

Venus Williams’ astounding 2007 Championships at Wimbledon run ended on a dazzling note this afternoon with her fourth Wimbledon title after a thrilling 6-4, 6-1 rout of France’s Marion Bartoli.
Her win today notches her another spot in the history books as she is the lowest seed to ever triumph at Wimbledon.
Venus opened the match with a love service game and from that moment on, she never lost sight of her fourth Wimbledon crown.
Unfortunately for Bartoli, nerves did come into play during the first part of the opening set as she misfired three double faults before she even got on the board at 3-love. After a few looks at her father who is also her coach, she settled down and made a match of it before Venus broke for the second time to take the opening set 6-4.
Venus leapt to a quick 3-love lead in the first set, but after capturing the third game, both players stopped play to have an injury timeout; Bartoli for blisters and Williams for a left thigh strapping.
During the time-out Bartoli won herself several more fans as she took a few moments to do the wave with the crowd. Energy renewed, she stormed back to hold her serve at love, but could not build on her hold as Venus broke her once again at 4-1 for a chance to serve for the title.
Having the match on her racquet only brought out the best in Venus and after blowing her first Championship point with a shot out wide, she fired a blistering serve at the body of Bartoli for her fourth Wimbledon title after exactly ninety minutes of play.
Given the fact that Venus Williams has been one of the stalwarts who have relentlessly campaign for equal prize money over the past few years, it is especially fitting that she walks away today with £700,000, equal to what the men’s champion will receive tomorrow.

Congrats to the regal Venus Williams! Aaeress, how far will Venus’ and Marion’s ranking jump after today?

Will.I.Am, the early projections that I’ve heard put Venus at around #17 and Marion at a new career high of about #11.
Again, these are just early projections, but the new rankings will come out tomorrow or Monday at the latest.

This is becoming 2005 all over again, Serena winning Aussie, Justine winning French, and Venus winning Wimbledon.
The Williams Sisters are just so unpredictable…but great win for Venus to be back in the game.
Also great run for Bartoli.
