Former world number one Lindsay Davenport is set to make her official return to singles competition on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour at September’s Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic in Bali.
Bali, which has long been one of Davenport’s favorite stops on the Tour circuit, has announced that the three-time Grand Slam champion will be competing in the singles main draw.
“I’m excited to be playing Bali once again,” said Davenport in a press statement released by the tournament. “It’s such a beautiful environment and everyone is so friendly and supportive of all the players. It’s always a great week and a lot of fun”
Returning to singles competition will be a challenge for the new mother, but Lindsay is certain that she has picked an excellent tournament for the launch of her comeback.
“I’ve really enjoyed playing the tournament in the past and feel it’s the perfect place for me to begin playing singles again,” added Davenport.
Lindsay gave birth to her first child, a son Jagger Jonathan Leach in June, and will be contesting her first professional match next month in the doubles competition at the Pilot Pen tennis tournament in New Haven with her fellow American Lisa Raymond.
The Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic is looking forward to not only hosting Davenport, but also current world number three Jelena Jankovic and reigning Pacific Life Open champion Daniela Hantuchova.
“We are thrilled that Lindsay will be returning to Bali to participate in the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic,” said tournament director Kevin Livesey. “Lindsay is a big star and she has been extremely popular these past two years in Bali and we all very much look forward to welcoming her back!”

I hope she still has championship form. It would be a disgrace for Lindsay to comeback and struggle. But I trust she knows what she is doing.
