Injured Amelie Mauresmo Withdraws From the US Open

Former world number one and two-time Grand Slam champion Amelie Mauresmo has withdrawn from the US Open.

According to a statement released by the WTA Tour, Mauresmo is still suffering from the effects of a groin injury and the appendectomy she underwent in March.

“My doctor has recommended that I allow myself additional time to rest and recover from this injury so that it is completely healed,” said Mauresmo. “Obviously, this is one of the worst times of the year for me to have an injury.”

Mauresmo has not yet qualified for the season-ending championships in Madrid. She is currently at No. 13 on the points race.
