Justine has always been pretty tough on any grand slam, and she’s doing well in Toronto this week.

Don’t know how well Sharapova has recovered from her injury, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I see her in the finals.

With enough rest after her early loss this week, I think Ana Ivanovic is a big contender too. Go Ana!

My oh my, the Serbs are coming!! Jelena Jankovic is my top pick to breakthrough and win her first grandslam. Ana Ivanovic is my close second.

If Venus Williams is healthy, I see her as a contender. Chakvetadze is also a frontrunner. And of course we can never count out Sharapova and Henin.

Long shots: Martina Hingis and Serena Williams. I doubt Serena will even play the US Open. She just withdrew from Pilot Pen. Neither one of them are match ready.

If her thumb is healed, I like Serena to walk in without any warmup tournaments and do what she did in Australia. If it hasn’t healed and she doesn’t play–or even if she does–I also like Sharapova, provided she, too, is injury-free. She recovered from that shin thing pretty fast last time. I don’t count Henin out.

My pick to finally break though is JJ.

Once the USTA announces the seedings, we’ll get a better look at the potential draw. Most likely, we’ll see Justine as No. 1 and Jelena as No. 3, setting up the potential of another thrilling semifinal.

The most dangerous floater in the draw will be Venus. Like Serena, she cannot be underestimated just because she has not competed this summer.

BTW, everyone, we will be playing the draw game again this year, as soon as the draw is released next week.
