Agnes Szavay has accomplished the biggest upset of the 2007 US Open so far by ousting seventh seed Nadia Petrova in straight sets today.

Szavay, who is playing in only her second Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event in the United States, routed an injured Petrova 6-4, 6-4 for a berth in the round of sixteen.

The young Hungarian shot to prominence last week at the Pilot Pen Tennis presented by Schick in New Haven, reaching the final before she succumbed to a back injury.

Shortly before the end of the first set, Petrova called for the Tour trainer for treatment to a strain in her left hip. The treatment to her leg allowed her to get back in the match, and she even managed to grab break points on Szavay’s serve when Agnes served for the match.

However, the eighteen year-old stormed back to take the win when Petrova lost her concentration after a code violation.

Agnes Szavay will await the winner of the Maria Kirilenko/Julia Vakulenko match in the fourth round.

It’s just soooooo wonderful! She took a lot of time to make her way on the tour, but she did it surely! ^^
She maybe able to make her first 1/4 in GC :)

I agree Nexty, Agnes really does stand a good chance of advancing to the quarters.

Julia Vakulenko plays well, but she is fairly prone to injuries.

Much congrats to Agnes. Good luck in the 4th round to the prettiest young lady left of the unseeded in the women’s draw. Will be rooting for you to advance. Love, JDF
