Svetlana Kuznetsova and Anna Chakvetadze Reach US Open Semifinals

Winning the US Open skyrocketed Svetlana Kuznetsova’s career in 2004, making her only the third female from Russia to win a Grand Slam. Now, three years later, she is set to prove that she can duplicate her title with another spectacular run.
Hungarian Agnes Szavay pushed Kuznetsova last week at the Pilot Pen, but today Kuznetsova knocked out the rookie star in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
Facing Kuznetsova in the semifinals on Friday will be her countrywoman Anna Chakvetadze. Chakvetadze beat out Shahar Peer 6-4, 6-1 in the first quarterfinal of the day.
Ironically, both players will be teaming up together in two weeks time to lead Russia against Italy in Fed Cup.

I think both Svetlana and Anna are great players and nothing much hasnt been written or said about them. And i think we are going to have the best semis here! And all the best to both players!!

Actually she was the 3rd. Myskina was first, Sharapova second and then Kuzzy.

I’m glad to see Anna doing well. Her personality is very refreshing and I love that she doesn’t give the standard post-match comments that most players do. She’s going to be fun to follow in the future.
