Official Team Nominations for the 2007 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final

The International Tennis Federation has announced the official roster for the 2007 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final.
Russia will be led by 2004 US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, with Francesca Schiavone leading the Italian squad.
According to Fed Cup rules, the team captains can change a maximum of two nominations up to one hour before the draw is held.

i really dont see why they pick Vesnina before Dementiava or Safina.

Good point - Vesnina’s results put her in the second tier behind Elena or Dinara.
However, it sounds as if Shamil Tarpishchev wanted to hold onto the dynamics of the squad (kind of how Zina Garrison tapped Vania King for the semifinal against Russia).
Vesnina was part of the winning team that reached the semifinals, so apparently the team that plays together stays together.
Plus, Vesnina will probably only play doubles . . . if that. If it goes down to the doubles deciding the final, I would not be surprised to see Svetlana and Anna team up or even Petrova with one of the top two.
