Justine Henin Battling Asthma, Pulls out of China Open

World number one Justine Henin has withdrawn from next week’s China Open in Beijing upon the advice of her doctors to rest after her summer season.

The 2007 French and US Open champion has been suffering from chronic asthma this season and most recently battled breathing problems during her semifinal win over Venus Williams.

Henin’s official website announced the news that she would be taking a short break from the Tour.

“After a medical examination in Belgium upon return Justine has been advised by her physicians to recover and rest,” it said. “She will not be able to visit and play the China Open in Beijing which begins next week.”

The remainder of her schedule, if her recovery progresses quickly, will include only three more events in 2007.

“When Justine is again given the greenlight by her doctors, she will gradually train in Monaco,” continued the website. “If all goes well her revised tour schedule will be Filderstadt, Zurich and Madrid.”
