Draw Ceremony for 2007 and 2008 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas

Friday will be a busy day for the staff at the 2007 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas final. The day will begin with the draw ceremony for the final to determine the five matches of the weekend.

Once that is completed, the draw for next year’s opening quarterfinal ties will be announced.

Italy and Russia will be contesting the final round of the 2007 Fed Cup tournament beginning on Saturday.

The Russians head into the meeting as the favorites, with a solid team of Svetlana Kuznetsova, Anna Chakvetadze, Nadia Petrova, and Elena Vesnina. Two-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova has joined the team as a practice partner and is participating in her first Fed Cup event while wearing Russia’s colors.

Attempting to win a second straight Fed Cup trophy is the Italian team of Francesca Schiavone, Mara Santangelo, Roberta Vinci, and Flavia Pennetta.

After the final draw is selected at 09:00 GMT on Friday, the 2008 World Group and World Group II opening round draws will be released.

The top four seeds heading into next year’s event will be Russia, Italy, France, and the United States. Joining the seeded nations in the World Group is China, Germany, Israel, and Spain.
