This was a fluke that Lindsay won - and it should remain this way.

Otherwise, how can she be a good mother to her baby - training and travelling the world.

All the best to Ms. Jankovic - she, at least, knows that she is a professional tennis player and not a mother who is playing tennis.

GO JELENA !!!

Alsacienne another reason I can offer why Lindsay's still on th rankings is its a 52 week rolling system and Lindsay's last event was China which is next week so if I've done the maths right it only 51 weeks since she last played. That's my understanding of it i could be wrong.

As for Lindsay beating Jelena last night I'm still stunned. Go Lindsay.

Alsacienne,

It certainly is confusing as to why Davenport would still be on the rankings, especially with only two tournaments left on her cumulative 52-week period. I'm not positive, but I believe the answer lies in the Tour's Special Injury Ranking rule.

Obviously, Lindsay was not injured, but on maternity leave. However according to the Tour rules, she is still eligible to use the ranking rule because she returned within a year of her son's birth. She declared her intention to return to singles/doubles competition before her 2006 New Haven and US Open points fell off, so the rule might have been what kept her on the rankings.

Again, I'm not sure if she has accepted the special injury ranking - but that can be determined as she enters more events.

Another similar, recent example of the special injury ranking was Alicia Molik once she returned from her inner ear infection.

You can read more about it in the rule book <a href="http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/global/includes/TrackIt.asp?file=/global/pdfs/shared/thewtatour/officialrules/rules.pdf" rel="nofollow">here</a>. It starts on page 190.

I hope this helped!

Aaress, I have a question about Lindsay's ranking.
You reported earlier on the ranking movers that she fell to 234. How come she is still on the rankings at all, given that she only played Bali and Beijing in the last 12 months period? Don't you usually need a minimum of 3 tourneys to be ranked? The WTA ranks, however, list 7 tourneys for her. How come - did she play anywhere without anyone noticing?

Thanks,

I am the greatest fan of Mrs Davenport in the world and was enormously happy to hear that she beat Jankovic.
She is a phenomenal ball-striker, with fantastic forehand, which I never tire to watch. She is such an intelligent, eloquent and modest young woman, that she would succeed in any walk of life. I am happy, she chose tennis.
I wish her to win sveral titles more and reach at least Australian Open quaterfinal.
Best wishes Lindsay!
