Semifinals Set at the China Open in Beijing

Lindsay Davenport extended her win streak to eight matches today by ousting two-time Grand Slam finalist Elena Dementieva in the quarterfinals of the 2007 China Open.

Davenport, the champion at last week’s Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic in Bali, was broken three times in the first set, but rallied to win 7-6(1), 6-1 for a berth in the Tier II semifinals.

Joining Davenport in the semifinals is second seed Jelena Jankovic, rising Hungarian star Agnes Szavay, and home favorite Peng Shuai.

Jankovic defeated Akiko Morigami 6-3, 7-5 and sixth seed Szavay advanced past Maria Emilia Salerni 6-2, 6-4.

China’s Peng Shuai reached her second semifinal of the 2007 season with a three set upset of third seed Amelie Mauresmo 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
