Australian Open Tennis Courts to Go Blue in 2008

The Australian Open will be undergoing an extreme makeover in 2008 with a brand-new logo, record prize money, and a change of color.

From the traditional green, the color of the courts at the Open will be changed for the first time in over a century to blue.

“Ushering in a new era of branding, Tennis Australia will unveil its new Plexicushion livery, complete with contrasting shades of blue,” wrote Fox Sports Australia today.

The new Plexicushion courts will be the third surface used in the Grand Slam’s history.

The 2008 Australian Open begins on January 14.

They aught to try and employ personel who can operate the Air-Conditioning unit, and get this carry on with when the roof is to be opened and closed sorted out. More players went down with heat exhaustion this year than ever before.

Good grief. Am I the only fan who hates blue courts?

Jim, they are also changing the heat rule next season. From now on, matches can be suspended at the umpire’s discretion at the end of the set, instead of requiring players to complete the match.

I know Maria Sharapova is rejoicing.
