Maria Sharapova Awarded Wildcard into Kremlin Cup

Maria Sharapova will be returning to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour next week in Moscow, thanks to a timely wildcard from Kremlin Cup tournament officials.

Sharapova will be competing for the first time since losing in the third round of the US Open to Agnieszka Radwanksa in August.

She pulled out of this week’s Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, citing a persistent shoulder injury. Her original plan was to compete only at the season-ending Championships if she qualified, but has now decided to enter Monday’s Tier I event in Moscow as a wildcard.

“Maria has asked for a wildcard and she’s got one,” said Kremlin Cup executive director Alexander Katsnelson.

The Kremlin Cup runs October 8-14.

Yay! Women’s tennis isn’t the same without Maria on the scene. Thank goodness Venus and Serena are playing right now. Can’t imagine the next slam being as unpopular and unwatched as the Henin vs. Kuzy final.

thank goodness maria is gonna be back…after that unfortunate loss at the US open we haven’t been able to see much of her…let’s hope she proves a point in this week’s Kremlin Cup..tennis is going to receive a much needed boost merely by her presence in the tournament..and maria….if u r reading this….all the best to you,the whole world welcomes u back with open arms!! Love you,Maria!!

I was right about Henin though, her management team ****** her over by adding her name to Moscow, now she has to use some bogus shoulder injury excuse to get out.

It’s so good that maria’s coming back after her loss at the us open. Sharapova should be above the world no.4. She’s alot better then kuznetsova and jankovic, the only reason jankovic is above her is because she enters so many tournaments.
