Marion Bartoli (9*/11) – Marion Bartoli badly damaged her knee last week at the Zurich Open, but still set a new career-high.

Nicole Vaidisova (14/15) – Playing in only her second event since the US Open, the Czech teenager reached the semifinals in Zurich.

Tatiana Golovin (15*/18) – Golovin’s runner-up finish at the Zurich Open led her to a new career-high inside the top 15.

Alona Bondarenko (23/25) – Alona Bondarenko defeated eighth seed Amelie Mauresmo in the second round of the Zurich Open before losing to Vaidisova in the quarterfinals.

Francesca Schiavone (25/32) – The Italian No. 1 reached the semifinals of the Zurich Open before being defeated by Tatiana Golovin.

Agnieszka Radwanska (26*/31) – As a qualifier last week in Zurich, Radwanska reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Justine Henin.
