Putting the right amount of spin on your shots is not as easy as Serena Williams or Lindsay Davenport makes it look, but thanks to a revolutionary new training device, you can remove some of the most common mistakes from your topspin groundstrokes.
The Tennis Xcelerator, the brainchild of Dallas inventor Ray Williams, is designed to create an elliptical swing pattern that starts high, travels low, and finishes high.
By using the Tennis Xcelerator intermittently during practice, you can build muscle memory and feel for a powerful and accurate groundstroke.
“What it does is eliminate too much wrist and overextension by locking the wrist and arm together in the correct position to promote a clean mechanical stroke,” said Williams. “The beautiful thing about it is that it is for all ages and levels.”
On the Baseline asked three beginner and intermediate players to test out the Xcelerator for this article.
Nick Drumsta, a former city high school tennis champion from Buffalo, New York agreed that one of the Xcelerator’s assets is its ability to help you “memorize the proper strokes.”
“If you follow the prescribed method of using the Xcelerator in fifteen-minute intervals, you will continue repeating those strokes,” added Drumsta. “The Xcelerator is an optimal tool for coaches or beginners through intermediates desiring to improve their game.”
Recreational player John Hornbuckle appreciated how the Tennis Xcelerator kept his racquet head down and thought it would be useful for younger players just starting to learn the proper technique.
“The Tennis Xcelerator helped keep the racquet head down and did not allow the ball to fly up out of play,” said Hornbuckle.
Although the training device may prove useful to players of all levels, the Xcelerator’s potential is fully reached when used by a beginner.
Emily Petty, a newcomer to the game of tennis, enjoyed her experience with the Xcelerator and felt the difference it made when using it in practice.
“As a beginner, I found the Xcelerator to be very effective, helping to correct my form and assisting in perfecting my swing,” Petty said. “It was also very user-friendly, both easy to put on and easy to use. I enjoyed using the Xcelerator.”
The Tennis Xcelerator is available for sale at www.tennisxcelerator.com and is sold in three different sizes – youth, adult large, and adult extra-large. Please visit the website to read more information or to watch video clips of the Xcelerator in action.
Pros: Trains brain to remember correct stroke motion, keeps racquet head down, and is a great tool for coaches to use with beginner players.
Cons: Needs more padding around forearm and fingers straps.
