Goodbye 2007, Hello 2008

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour players are enjoying a few weeks of vacation before heading Down Under, but at On the Baseline, we still have plenty of tennis to discuss before the 2008 season begins in Australia.

Over the next six weeks, I will be introducing two new features to the website and hope that you will be here to participate.

Vote for Your Favorites! The First Annual Baseline Awards
Beginning later this month, readers will be able to participate in the first annual Baseline Awards. Nominee categories include Player of the Year, Match of the Year, Humanitarian of the Year, Fan Favorite of the Year, Best Tennis Blog, Best Commentator, and more. I’ll be posting more information on how you can vote for your favorites soon!

2007 and 20082008 Players to Watch Series
On the Baseline will again feature our annual players to watch series in December. You will not want to miss the 2008 edition, which will feature interviews and articles from a host of tennis journalists, bloggers, and top players. Don’t head into the 2008 season without getting the scoop on the players to keep your eye on in the next season!

Off-Season Changes at On the Baseline
A couple of things will be different at On the Baseline during the off-season. Aces and Faults will be published twice a week on Monday and Friday. The weekly Tour rankings post will also be suspended until the season resumes in January. These changes will only take place during the off-season; everything will resume as normal once the regular season begins. The stories generally posted in Aces and Faults can still be found at the Tennis Ticker, if you do not want to wait until Monday or Friday.

Other than the above, you can expect business to continue as normal at OTB. Open Forum Fridays will still be posted once a week, so if you have a question or comment that you want to share, feel free to submit it here.

Everyone, thank you very much for your support and participation at On the Baseline during not only the 2007 season, but also the past two years. It has been a pleasure getting to know many of you as we share our mutual love for tennis.

i was just thinking you should have an OTB awards. good thinking. can i suggest a category? Comeback of the year. should be a tight contest between Lindsay and Serena.

Sure Venusfan, you (and anyone else that is interested) are more than welcome to suggest categories! I’ll definitely add the category of comeback of the year.

    Any other suggestions?

No more daily updates! What am I going to do with my life!? I check this site at least 3 times a day!

Actually, Will, the daily Aces and Faults post will be changed to just twice a week. This is mainly because there will be no match results to report or schedules to post. The only thing completely suspended is the ranking reports.

Other than that, nothing will change, so you can keep checking three times a day! Trust me, there will still be plenty of tennis news to write about!

Some other possible categories: best newcomer of the year, best coverage (I’m American, so I’m thinking of ESPN, VS, Tennis Channel, NBC, CBS, but obviously international ones as well), best story

i know what you mean Will. im never off this site! i love it. you do such a good job Aaress. this really is the best tennis site on the net.

I think ‘biggest upset’ would make a good category. surely that would go to Bartoli.

and is Aces and Faults going to be twice a week just for the off season, or for good?

  7. Aaress | Nov 13, 2007 | Reply

Thanks Venusfan! I really appreciate it.

Sorry for the confusion about the off-season changes - I have edited the post above to hopefully make things a bit clearer. Aces and Faults will be twice a week for just the off-season. It will resume once again daily (5-times a week) once the regular season begins.

Sorry, comments for this entry are closed at this time.

Are you a good person?
