Venus and Serena Williams have announced that they will be teaming up to compete in the women’s doubles event at the 2008 Australian Open.
The last time the sisters played together in Melbourne Park was the 2003 Australian Open when they won the title.
AO tournament director Craig Tiley is understandably excited to have Venus and Serena in the doubles field.
“The Williams sisters in full flight on the same side of the net is one of the great sights in tennis,” Tiley said according to the Australian. “They are also one of the most skilled pairings on the world circuit with an incredibly successful record in doubles.”
The 2008 Australian Open begins on January 14.

I just saw pictures of Venus getting an award. It looked like a diamond encrusted tennis ball. any idea what this was for?

Venusfan, where did you see the picture? I’ve not heard anything about it, but I’ll check and see what I can find out.

it was on the espn website. it says something about her Wimbledon victory, but players dont usually get awards just for winning a grand slam.

They may stand a chance in the doubles. In the singles, serena will have to come with another excuse for yet one more defeat at the hands of Justine. Venus and others will be playing for runner-up.

Well,
Lets hope there ain’t no injury talks then.
It’ll be good to see another Henin Serena contest, especially with Serena truly contesting, well defending…
In current form + injury free, she’s nowhere near the package that can beat Justine. I am afraid.
But we speculate. Bring on 2008.

If so, it was an award given to her by Jewelry Marketing Company in honor of her Wimbledon title.
Hope this helped!

It will be great to see both Williams sisters at the Aussie open. After all their great achievements and contribution to tennis some people still dont appreciate them and yet when they talk about great wta players, they always match them against the sisters.Serena made a public show of Sharapova in 2007 by triumphanting over her.I’ m surprised they still think Sharapova will come top.We shall see, I hope it’ s not gonna be another great embarrassment for those who have their hopes in Sharapova.Remember also how Venus just swept her aside at Wimbledon ? Let’ s wait and see.
