Americans in Paris will have to jet across the English Channel if they want a glimpse of Lindsay Davenport next year. The former world number one recently talked about her calendar plans for 2008 and Roland Garros is unquestionably off her schedule.
Davenport, who returned to professional tennis in August after giving birth to her first child in June, plans to contest three Grand Slams in 2008 – the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and if all goes according to plan, the US Open.
Roland Garros has never been a favorite jaunt for the South California native, and Davenport has ruled out competing at the French Open next season.
“My goals are to be able to play the Australian Open, to get to Wimbledon, play the Olympics and obviously I would love to play the US Open one more time,” said Davenport according to Reuters. “The French Open has always been a tough grand slam for me and I am not positive I will go there.”
Davenport is expected to open her year at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.

Can’t say I’m surprised that Lindsay is talking about skipping the French Lindsay’s never been fond of Europe or clay. it makes better sense for Lindsay to skip it and train for a slam she has a better chance of winning namely wimbledon.
I think it’d be nice if she played all four slams, she has reached quarters and semis at Roland Garros after all. However, if she does forgo the French in order to be better rested and prepared for Wimbledon, that’s not a bad idea. My only remaining question is whether she plans to take part in Amelia Island (which she’s won three times) or Charleston (where she’s reached many quarters and one semi).
Kurt,
To my knowledge, it has not been confirmed if Lindsay will play one or the other, if either of them at all.
As soon as I hear anything definite, I will certainly post the news.
