Tennis Australia Announces Best Ever Field for Australian Open

Ninety-nine of the top one hundred players in the world are expected to compete at the 2008 Australian Open.

The player’s list is currently the best field in the history of the tournament.

The only player inside the top one hundred not scheduled to participate is No. 40 Vera Dushevina. She has withdrawn because of a right foot injury.

With only forty-one days to go before the first ball is struck at Melbourne Park, tournament director Craig Tiley is excited that the main draw bodes well for a thrilling Grand Slam.

“It’s fantastic news to know that all of the world’s best tennis players are coming to Melbourne in January for the Australian Open,” said Tiley according to Australia’s Sportal. “The field is sprinkled with genuine superstars, rising stars and Australians, which will no doubt lead to some brilliant tennis.”

“At this stage it’s the strongest field in the event’s history and we’re sure this will equate to one of the most exciting tournaments yet.”

The 2008 Australian Open will be held at Melbourne Park from January 14-27, 2008. Tickets are available for sale at www.australianopen.com.
