Maria Sharapova surrendered the No. 1 ranking to Justine Henin after Indian Wells. Henin would hold onto the top spot for the rest of the season.
Roland Garros announced equal prize money for women players across the board.
Daniela Hantuchova won her second career title at the Pacific Life Open.
An emergency appendectomy forced Amelie Mauresmo off the Tour for three months.
The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour gave Amelie Mauresmo the 2006 Player of the Year award.
Roadmap 2010 was approved by the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Board of Directors.
Serena Williams stormed back from losing the opening set 0-6 to defeat Justine Henin 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the final of the Sony Ericsson Open.
