We will be launching our 2008 Players to Watch Series on December 10, but in the meanwhile, I’m eager to hear what players are on your list for the upcoming season.
Today’s Open Forum Friday questions:
Make plans to join us for the next two weeks as we take an in-depth look at several rising stars (and established players) eager to achieve success in 2008. We’ll also be featuring the work of several tennis bloggers and journalists, along with exclusive interviews with some of the break-out players of 2007.
Have a great weekend everyone!

The rising stars I am most interested in right now are Tamira Pazsek and Victoria Azarenka; I am eager to see how far they can go, and think they both have a lot of potential.
Of course, I’ll be watching my favorites–Mauresmo, Schnyder, Jankovic, and Davenport. I’m feeling down that Patty has raised her game–with a really improved serve– to such a high level, yet has managed to drop in the rankings. And, as always, I’m really frustrated that she gets to so many Tier I and II finals but does not win them. Really–what are we going to do about Patty? It isn’t easy, being her fan…
I’m hoping that Amelie is in a good mental place because when she is, she is capable of just about anything. I really missed her presence this past season.
And I’m also hoping that Jankovic actually listens to the people around her who tell her to stop playing so many tournaments! Having her nose repaired should also help. I still think she is a big load of tennis talent and can win a Slam.
I’m watching Chakvetadze, too. And Bartoli. I like the difficult ones, don’t I?
I’d like to see what Serena makes of her 2007 bashing from Justince. Although to be honest, I don’t see Serena coming out stronger, the way she’s been on the social circuits lately, but you never know…
Venus remains my favourite watchOut number 1, I just enjoy her game.
Flavia Penetta, I saw her pull a winner over Venus this year, and I hope to see more of her in action.
Maria, hmnnn, still didn’t see her finals with Justine, but from what I’ve read, she’s back!
Jankovic – I’ll be watching her too, her smiles even when losing is always quite magnetic.
I’m sure, Aaress, after my year or so here posting, you know who my favorite player is. :p So I will be following her as closely as I ever will, but the other suspects: Venus (see if she can sustain her post-FO form), Lindsay (see how high in the ranks she gets), Amelie (if she can come back to where she belongs in the top five), Daniela (for consistency purposes and have another good year in a row), Wozniacki, Paszek, and Azarenka. Especially Paszek, who’s my favorite young’n.
I want to see Lindsay, Venus, and Serena take a slam each next year. That’d be a dream come true. And then Dementieva win the gold medal or one of the remaining slams, ??? ???? ?? ??????????!

lololol. It wouldn’t accept my Russian letters. Sorry!
Aaress you called me Lindsay’s number one cheerleader and I’m guilty as charged and I look forward to seeing how far she go with her comeback next year and to see if she can win another slam and make the olympic team and win another gold medal.
What I look forward to most is just seeing Lindsay play again. Once she announced her pregnancy I thought she was gone for good and this is now bonus time and hope whatever the result are she ends up retiring happy and with no regrets.
Serena, Vemus, Lindsay I am hoping that this will be there best year ever. They are my three favorite. If Capriati comes back that
would be something for american fans. The top
four doing their thing winning some slams in
2008. What a headline that will be.
I plan to watch JUSTINE, JUSTINE, JUSTINE!!! I hope she continues to school the William sisters. Before they leave the circuit, hopefully they’ll learn to be gracious in both winning as well as losing. Im happy Davenport is coming back, would love to see her win another slam.
I hope that Marion Bartoli gets some good results and stays in the top ten. It would be great if Tatiana Golovin can get in there with her. My low ranked player to watch is Camille Pin, I like her. I guess French players just have that certain something.
It would be neat if the Serbian women can win a slam. Or maybe a gold medal at the Olympics, I’m sure that would blow Serbia’s mind.
I hope that Anna Chakvetadze gets some good results and will stay in the top ten
and take a look at my new website:

I AM VERY ENCOURAGED BY THE RETURN OF MARIA SHARAPOVA ESPECIALLY WITH THE END OF THE YEAR ERICCSON CHAMPIONSHIPS! I HOPE SHE WILL BE A SIGNIFICANT FACTOR AT THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN AND FINALLY GETS THE MONKEY OFF HER BACK!!
For me the return of Lindsay Davenport is really thrilling. She has always been a force on tour and one of the most consistent peformers over a long career. She is proving that you don’t have to be 18-24 to be a success, athletes in their early 30′s still can be a factor.
Good luck Lindsay!
Diane . . Patty Schnyder remains one of the biggest enigmas in women’s tennis. She consistently stays in the top 20, yet she never seems to be able to pull her game together when it matters the most.
She has potential, but the clock is starting to wind down on her career.
I’m not sure Jelena Jankovic will keep her place in the top 10, also Williams’ sisters need to play more tournies than they did in 2007.
Golovin, Vaidisova and Szavay are, imo, next top 1o
I think Victoria Azarenka will be the breakthrough player of 2008. I also believe Paszek and Wozniacki will greatly rise in the rankings.
I’ll be following the Williams sisters, Davenport, Sharapova, Mauresmo, Vaidisova, and Ivanovic.
