Amelie Mauresmo Reinjures Thigh, Pulls out of Sydney

Amelie Mauresmo’s plans for the new season have ground to a halt. The two-time Grand Slam winner has pulled out of the Medibank International because she reinjured an old injury.
China’s Na Li has also withdrawn from the tournament.
According to Reuters, Mauresmo has decided to skip this week’s Tier II event in Sydney because of continued problems with a groin strain. This same injury kept her on the sidelines during much of the 2007 tennis season.
In a statement, Mauresmo said that she hopes to recover after a few days of rest.
“It’s very disappointing to me that I won’t be able to compete in the (Sydney International this year),” Mauresmo said.
“Unfortunately I have re-injured my left adductor. I felt it yesterday during my training session and did not practice today. This is an injury that I am familiar with and know that it will not get better overnight. I know that I would not be 100 per cent fit and ready to play on Monday. I have to take a few days to rest in order for it to get better.”
Last week’s champion at Gold Coast, Na Li, withdrew from the event because of a knee injury.
