World No. 1 Justine Henin extended her win streak to twenty-eight matches on Friday after gallantly downing world No. 2 Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final of the Medibank International.
Greece’s Eleni Daniilidou was named the winner of the Moorilla Hobart International after a walkover by Vera Zvonareva.
In what was their 18th career meeting, Henin struggled but overcame the challenge of Kuznetsova in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Henin now leads their head-to-head record 16-2.
Vera Zvonareva’s left ankle injury cost her a chance to contest the final in Hobart, handing Eleni Daniilidou the championship title by default. This was Daniilidou’s fifth career victory.
