Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic, Serena Williams, Elena Dementieva, Nicole Vaidisova, and Amelie Mauresmo advanced into the third round during the afternoon on Wednesday.

Fifth seed Maria Sharapova defeated Lindsay Davenport in straights sets during the night session.

    Justine, Serena, and Amelie had tough matches today, even Jankovic even though they won in straight sets.

    Serena had to win every point to win those two sets, it wasn’t easy. Justine choked on her serve in the second set and played like a Top 20 player, while Amelie also choked in the second set.
