Two years after being banned from professional tennis for doping, Sesil Karatantcheva has returned to active competition.

“Special K”, as Karatantcheva was known during the height of her short career on the WTA Tour, is playing this week at the Coca-Cola Future Stars ITF event in Surprise, Arizona.

The tournament has a combined purse of $25,000 dollars, and after playing through the qualifying event, Karatantcheva has reached the semifinals.

Karatantcheva was banned from tennis on January 11, 2006 for testing positive for nandralone. Sesil contested that the substance was not from doping, rather the aftereffects of a miscarriage. At the time, she was only sixteen years of age.

Her best result before being suspended was a quarterfinal finish at Roland Garros in 2005.

Her semifinal match will be covered live on the internet by Radio Tennis. You can listen to the live audio feed by visiting www.radiotennis.com.
