2006 Champion Nadia Petrova Returns to Charleston for Family Circle Cup

Charleston’s Family Circle Cup has announced that 2006 champion Nadia Petrova plans to return to compete in their 2008 event.

World No. 1 Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic, and Venus Williams have already committed to the Tier I tournament.

The Family Circle Cup, America’s oldest Tier I event, will be held April 12th - 20th at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

“Nadia Petrova’s experience and success at this event adds depth to the world class player field headed to Charleston for our 35th anniversary celebration,” commented Robin Reynolds, Family Circle Cup Tournament Director.

“Our fans are in for a real treat with four former champions returning to compete for one of most coveted prizes in women’s tennis as we mark such an important milestone at the Family Circle Cup.”

Twenty-five year old Nadia Petrova notched her fifth straight Top 20 season and surpassed $6 million in career earnings by posting consistently strong results throughout 2007 including her seventh career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title at the Tier II Paris Indoor event.

Petrova improved her world ranking by two places with a fourth round appearance at the 2008 Australian Open, elevating herself to the World No. 12 position and marking her 350th career victory. She is making her sixth appearance at the Family Circle Cup where she holds a 10-4 singles record that includes a current winning streak of five matches.
