Next week’s Open Gaz de France lost its top seed on Friday as Serena Williams pulled out of the tournament because of dental problems.
According to the tournament organizers, Williams is in need of dental surgery and will not be making the trip to Paris.
Serena lost in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open to Jelena Jankovic and opted out of playing Fed Cup this weekend in California. There is no word yet on the time it will take for her to recover, but she is scheduled to play next in Antwerp at the Proximus Diamond Games.
Daniela Hantuchova will be replacing Serena Williams as the top seed at the Open Gaz de France, which begins on Monday.

Oh, wonder what kind of dental surgery Serena is having, maybe she’s having her wisdom teeth pull or something.
I got all four of my pulled at the same time, it was no fun.

@Nick,
That thing called wisdom tooth, I am still having mine lurking in there right now, it wont come out clean, and its so painful sometimes…
@aaress,
Do you know of any TV coverage for this french tourney ?

Dapxin, British Eurosport will begin airing live coverage of the Open Gaz de France on Tuesday.
Unfortunately for those of us in the USA, we won’t be able to watch it as Tennis Channel is showing Davis Cup.

Dapxin, why dont you go remove your wisdom tooth or teeth, depending on how many you have growing right now.
I got all 4 of mine pulled at the same time to save me the pain of having to come back. It was two weeks of ****!
As for Open Gaz De France, it was on Tennis Channel last year and is still on the schedule to air on TTC, I guess it might be on tape delay.

Nick, thanks for pointing that out!
TTC is scheduled to show tape delayed only the final on Sunday.
