Russia’s Anna Chakvetadze passed Venus Williams on Monday when the new Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings were released.
Chakvetadze, who advanced to No. 6, won her seventh career title on Sunday at Paris’ Open Gaz de France. Agnieszka Radwanska, the winner of the Pattaya Women’s Open, remains at No. 21.
Although she still has a long way to rise before breaking into the top 100 again, Bulgaria’s Sesil Karatantcheva has returned to the Tour rankings. After fulfilling a two-year ban for doping, Karatantcheva is back to No. 382.
