Serbian sensation Ana Ivanovic will hit the courts at the Qatar Total Open this week with an extra bounce in her step.

The twenty-year old from Belgrade is the top seed for the first time in her career at a Tier I tournament.

The 2008 tennis season’s first Tier I tournament begins on Monday in Doha, Qatar. Doha not only upgraded their previous Tier II event this year, but is also scheduled to host the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships in November.

Four former Grand Slam champions are in the main draw, including recent Australian Open winner Maria Sharapova.

Top Eight Seeds
1. Ana Ivanovic
2. Svetlana Kuznetsova
3. Jelena Jankovic
4. Maria Sharapova
5. Anna Chakvetadze
6. Venus Williams
7. Daniela Hantuchova
8. Marion Bartoli

Highly anticipated first round matches include No. 9 Patty Schnyder vs. Tamira Paszek, No. 11 Dinara Safina vs. Katarina Srebotnik, and No. 12 Shahar Peer vs. Francesca Schiavone.

The complete Qatar Total Open main draw is available here at the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour website.

    Alice,

The Qatar Total Open’s seedings were based on last week’s rankings. So although Kuznetsova overtook Ivanovic this morning, she is still seeded at No. 2.
