Charleston, South Carolina is expecting a visit from a familiar face in April, two-time Family Circle Cup finalist Patty Schnyder.
Schnyder is expected to make her twelfth consecutive appearance at the Tier I tournament.
No. 12 Patty Schnyder, who holds a 25-11 record at the event, has officially entered this year’s Family Circle Cup.
Schnyder joins a star-studded player field boasting four former champions and six of the Top 10 players in the world, including World No. 1 Justine Henin, set to compete April 12th - 20th, 2008 at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
“Patty Schnyder’s eleven years of experience, success, and fan support at this event make her a strong contender as the world’s top players head to Charleston for our 35th anniversary celebration,” commented Robin Reynolds, Family Circle Cup Tournament Director.
“She has been a part of this event for nearly one third of its existence, so it’s very exciting to have her return for this historic milestone at the Family Circle Cup.”
Patty Schnyder, a twenty-nine year old veteran of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, posted consistently strong results throughout 2007 securing her fourth straight Top 20 season while surpassing 450 career singles victories and $6 million in career earnings.
Schnyder began 2008 on a strong note reaching the semifinals at Gold Coast and the second round at the Australian Open in January, then advanced to the quarterfinals at Antwerp last week improving her ranking by one notch as the current World No. 12 player.
A fitting addition to this year’s 35th anniversary celebration, Patty Schnyder is making her twelfth consecutive showing at the Family Circle Cup where she holds a 25-11 singles record, including appearances in the finals in 2002 and 2006.
Schnyder’s consistent results have made her a fan-favorite on Daniel Island, and her $399,700 in total earnings at this event make her the 4th most financially successful competitor at the Family Circle Cup.
