February is the month the United States has set apart to honor African-American history. This is to recognize the many individuals who have blazed trails and inspired changes which have benefited the lives of millions of Americans.

Before the days of Venus and Serena, there was Althea Gibson. Tall, athletic, and powerful, Gibson became the first African-American to triumph at the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

CBS aired the following tribute to Gibson last year, celebrating the fifty-year anniversary of her first US Open singles title.
