Slump Forces Amelie Mauresmo to Consider Retirement

Amelie Mauresmo is stuck in one of the worst slumps of her career at the veteran age of twenty-eight.
A few more bad results and the former world No. 1 might be announcing her retirement from professional tennis.
Since she failed to defend her title at Wimbledon last season, the two-time Grand Slam champion has won nine matches. Her ranking has plummeted from No. 4 to outside the Top 20 at No. 22. This week in Doha, she lost to qualifier Tamarine Tunasugarn in the second round.
Speaking after her latest poor showing, Mauresmo admitted that if things continue like they are now, she may be forced to hang up her racquet for good.
“I want to keep on playing but at the same time I am wondering if it’s the right thing to do,” said Mauresmo to L’Equipe in Doha.
“Just as soon as I get the feeling back that I am heading in the right direction, I get another heavy defeat like that. It’s been like that for the last few months. Obviously at some point that leaves you wondering whether it might be best just to pack it all in.”
Next on her schedule is Dubai, Indian Wells, and Miami where Mauresmo is hoping to change things around for good.
“Obviously at some point that leaves you wondering whether it might be best just to pack it all in,” added Mauresmo. “But we are not quite there yet. For the moment I still want to keep trying.”

oh come on
it’s just the french press which makes a big story of few words unclearly expressed
Amelie still has the motivation and i’m sure she will come back!

She didnt totally dismiss retiring did she. I’m, surprised.
Is it not just Amelie talking through her lack her of self-confidence again?
Also, if the French press is as mean-spirited as British tabloid.. *Build them up to knock them down* Then maybe she’ll be hounded into retirement!
