I am saddened to say that I can’t “get” the Pacific Life Open. My TV coverage, on Direct TV, for which I pay more than $50 per month does not include Fox Sports Network. I called Direct TV today, and they said I would have to buy a special service for $104, in order to see the Pacific Life Open. You gotta be kiddin’. How about using the Tennis Channel, guys???

Good news. Sunday morning 3/16 and I decided that the info the Direct TV people gave me yesterday just did not make sense. So I called back, and within moments bought the “sports Pak” for the month, for an additional $11.00 only. Whew.

    Geeta,

Glad to hear you were able to access the Pacific Life Open! Enjoy the tennis!

Why is the NYC coverage not mentioned? It is impossible to find out when and where the matches will be aired on tv in NYC. I see there is 2 hour coverage today on MSG plus, but that’s it! Why are we left to wonder where and when to watch on tv?????

I wonder why PLOpen got involved with Fox? terrible endless babbling commentary from Gimelstob, who is no better at this than at tennis, sorry, and terrible scorekeeping - at one point Fox gave the Nadal match on their scorecard to the other player! and their advance announcements about coverage are simply totally wrong and untrue. I missed all the women’s matches before I realized that what they were announcing was not in fact what they were planning to show!

Maybe someone else could do a a better job. I don’t remember the Pac. Life Open being this bad in previous years.

I am so disappointed in FSN network. 20 channels of tennis all showing the same exact match. Meanwhile, they did not broadcast one full Women’s QF match and revealed the outcome of the Sharapova semi-final before they broadcast it will showing the Serbian SF. What a complete waste to see the same Men’s QF over and over and not the main Women’s matches. Hopefully, they’ll broadcast the ladies F before spilling the bean on who wins.

  7. Lisa | Mar 22, 2008 | Reply

And, another thing. Totally agree with Liz on the commentary. I miss McEnroe, Arias, and Shriver from the good ol’ days at ESPN. What a waste from FSN. Totally disorganized and poor coverage. This is not coverage for real tennis fans.

I agree with those comments about FSN broadcast. I cannot get to see the matches here in South Florida
even taped matches due to the time differential. FSN should hire some of the ESPN programmers. I miss ESPN.
I don’t want to watch the Miami matches if they are broadcastby FSN.

Why do you list to show tennis matches live
(saturday 1pm) and you show a nothing meaning
    base ball game instead?

I am furious right now. I just finished watching the Nadal - Djokovic match with the Federer - Fish match up next and FSN (MSG+) in the New York area ended its broadcast and is showing Thoroughbred racing instead. FSN coverage of tennis in the New York area has not been adequate. ESPN’s coverage was much more complete. I am very disappointed.

  11. c | Mar 22, 2008 | Reply

Why does the commentators keep mentioning that the ball flight is affected by the slight desert elevation there at Indian Wells?
its at 277 ft above sea level for goodness sake!
hardly enough to cause a change in flight.

I totally agree. Can’t see Federer play? Please, ESPN come back. Commentators dreadful in the Nadal -Djokovic match.

I didn’t think the tennis coverage on U.S. cable could get any worse. I was wrong. FSN’s coverage of the Indian Wells Tournament, combined with Comcast Sports Network in the Boston area, is awful. It seems the cable stations have sunk to a new low with poor coverage and inexperienced announcers. Then again, all the real announcers are pandering to the 18-39 male sports crowd. For shame Pacific Life.

whereis John McEnroe the coverage was terrible by Gimblestop and now I find I will not able to see final as I do not contribute to this channel. I guess $110 PER MONTH IS NOT ENOUGH.
    COME BACK NBC OR ESPN
    DISGUSTED. JW

I live in DC and through Comcast I was able to see the previous matches on channel 10 and today they are showing college baseball!! I called Comcast because I tried to find on what channel the Pacific Life Open was on and was unsuccessful. After talking to customer services for a half hour they told me that FSN is not available in DC!! I don’t understand this is ridiculous!!!

  16. Sandra Fowler | Mar 23, 2008 | Reply

Why aren’t the finals of the Pacific Life tennis on tv? I have watched your station faithfully all week and now you have preseaon baseball on rather than the final.

Why has FSN chosen to emphasize their on air talent and not the sounds of the game? I miss hearing the full thwack of the ball and the cheers and groans of the crowd.

Justin Gimelstob was just horrible in his commentating, and I am dreading the next time I have to listen to his unrelentless criticisms of the players. He was never a good enough player to be criticizing anyone, and he just doesn’t have the credibility required to be commentating anything.

I too agree with everyone on FSN’ insignificant and unreliable “coverage.” Here in the Upper Midwest, the local FSN coverage chose college hockey, final four kinda stuff. Okay, so that’s understandable - but then FSN pick a sister network, “Speed” to Fox News, to FX to whatever to broadcast the tennis programming. This is what other broadcasting companies do…

For sending your comments on the lack of “coverage” - here’s PacLife’s address, from the Pac Life Open website -

I live in South Bend, IN area, and I have Comcast cable service with sports package including Tennis Channel. I was not able to see one single live or even taped match – very disappointed with Comcast, FSN, and Tennis Channel. I called Comcast – they said they didn’t have rights but would request FSN coverage for my area. I also sent email to Tennis Channel – they’ve never replied as they obviously don’t care about their customers and real tennis fans. Their program is so annoying with 24 hrs repetitions of the same shows – bag checks and interviews with the same people over and over again every day.
It looks like Sony Ericsson will be today on CSN (37) – that would be very nice for a change! They probably have no other sport events (including local softball recreational games) today.

The coverage for both the Pacific Life Open and the Sony Ericsson Open has been just awful. The FSN website, this website, and the ATP site all post TV schedules for the matches but guess what’s on my local FSN channel right now? Major League Baseball. It’s SUPPOSED to be tennis! This has happened over and over. Not only that, but during both tournaments I can hear a technical director’s comments over his headset! “Affiliates, 10 seconds to national break. 3-2-1 and we’re clear.” He or she can continue to be heard over announcer comments and during the commercial breaks. I live in Lincoln, NE (Time Warner Cable) and this can be heard on my digital boxes but not on the TV that’s hooked up directly to the cable. What gives? FSN is bush league.

I completely agree Barb. I was looking forward to watching tennis today as well. Federer and Serena have matches scheduled during that time. However, Baseball is playing right now. And it is not even the game. It’s the preshow. What is really going on? FSN really *****. And they don’t discirimnate. They do this with all their sports coverage.

For all of us who love tennis, I hope those in control never allow the atrocious coverage carried by FSN or MSG plus in New York City. In my 30 years of watching tennis, this is the worst coverage I have ever seen. It seems that FSN (MSG plus) is totally uninvolved in the game of tennis. Their channel is obviously devoted to hockey, baseball, football, etc., since they preempt the tennis matches for every other sport. Please, whomever has a say in the tv coverage, do not let this happen again.
