France’s Tatiana Golovin has withdrawn from the upcoming Bausch & Lomb Championships in Amelia Island, Florida.

The 2007 champion pulled out of the tournament because she underwent surgery on her left thigh last week.

“I am recovering well after my surgery last week,” said Golovin in the tournament’s press release.

“I will be back on the practice court soon and look forward to returning to competitive play in the coming weeks. I am disappointed not to have the opportunity to defend my title in Amelia Island but I plan to return there again many more times where I have such great memories.”

Responding to the news of Golovin’s withdrawal, John Arrix, Bausch & Lomb Championships director said, “Tatiana is a bright star for women’s tennis, however she has had her challenges staying healthy. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to having her back at Amelia in 2009.”
